Omeprazole is a “racemic” drug, meaning it is a mixture of two molecular forms. Esomeprazole is the active (“S-shaped”) form of omeprazole. Generally, esomeprazole is considered more effective in controlling stomach acid than omeprazole.

Oral Dosage Form:

- 20 mg or 40 mg, once daily, 4-8 weeks.

- If there is no improvement after 4-8 weeks, a further 4-8 weeks of treatment may be considered.
- Symptom relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD):
- 20 mg, once daily, 4 weeks.
- If symptoms do not resolve after 4 weeks, a further 4 weeks of treatment may be considered.
- Eradication of Helicobacter Pylori:
- Triple therapy to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence – omeprazole 40 mg, once daily, 10 days;
- Amoxicillin 1000 mg, twice a day, 10 days;
- Clarithromycin 500 mg, twice a day, 10 days.
- Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:
- Dosage 20-80 mg, once daily.
- The dose is determined according to the patient’s condition, and the treatment should be carried out as per the doctor’s instructions.
- In the treatment of acid-related dyspepsia:
- 20-40 mg, once daily, 2-4 weeks (depending on results).
- Duodenal ulcer:
- 20 mg, once daily, 2-4 weeks.
- Gastric ulcer:
- 20-40 mg, once daily, 4-8 weeks.
Intravenous Injection:
- • Adult patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive oesophagitis, aged 18 years or older:
- The recommended dose is 40 mg esomeprazole (20 mg Sergel).
- May be given by intravenous injection (at least 3 minutes) or intravenous infusion (10-30 minutes) once daily.
