M Kast 10 mg The tablet is a popular, effective medicine that contains the active ingredient Montelukast. It is used to treat various allergic and respiratory problems. It works by blocking the action of chemicals called leukotrienes, which are responsible for allergic reactions and inflammation in our body. By blocking leukotrienes, this medication reduces allergy symptoms and widens the airways, resulting in asthma symptoms. So asthma treatment also gives effective results. This medicine may have some side effects; it may interact with other medicines, and pregnant and lactating mothers should consult a doctor before taking this medicine. Avoid self-medication without a doctor’s advice.

Pharmacology

Our body has a type of fatty acid called arachidonic acid. Different cells, such as mast cells and eosinophils, break down this arachidonic acid to produce three types of chemicals. These are called Cysteinyl Leukotrienes. The three main forms of this cysteinyl leukotriene are LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4. Cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLT) are present in our airways. When these cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4) bind to those receptors, the airways narrow, making it harder to breathe, and more mucus is produced. This is how problems like allergies or asthma arise. M-Kast 10 mg Tablet is an oral medicine. This medicine can bind very strongly to cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1). But it has no effect, i.e., does not cause any additional action in the body. As a result, LTC4 cannot bind to that receptor, making it easier to breathe with fewer problems such as airway constriction, shortness of breath, etc.

Drug interactions

It can be taken safely with other regularly used treatments. Studies have shown no clinically significant interactions with theophylline, prednisone, prednisolone, birth control pills (norethindrone 1 mg/ethinyl estradiol 35 micrograms), terfenadine, digoxin, and warfarin at prescribed doses. Although detailed interaction tests have not been done, no harmful interactions have been observed when it is taken with commonly used regular medications. These medications include thyroid hormones, sleeping pills, benzodiazepines, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and decongestants. However, a drug called phenobarbital in the liver reduces the absorption capacity (AUC) of M-Kast 10 by about 40%. Although dosage changes are not necessary for this reason, careful monitoring should be observed when taking it with potent cytochrome P450 enzyme-producing drugs such as phenobarbital or rifampin.
